MAISIE PHILLIPS: Presenter
Hello, I hope that this message finds you feeling very well and happy.
When I was 14yrs old, I was walking along a cliff path in Ilfracombe, when I touched a fence while looking at the view (unknown to me the cliff was crumbling) the fence fell down, and I fell over the top of it, falling down a sheer drop of 200 feet to the rocks below. I was in such a serious condition after the fall, that I received the last sacrament from a local priest. I did regain consciousness 5 days later. Many people were there for me, to name a few, the lifeboat team, the ambulance service, the doctors and all of the people who nursed me back to good health. While I was in the hospital bed, I did not have the strength to lift my hands up from the bedcovers, but I was able to listen to hospital radio.
Nowadays we have many elderly people in Nevill Hall Hospital and Nursing homes in and around Abergavenny. Many of these people are too weak to move, and a lot are blind, therefore unable to even read a book. All they have are memories of their youth. There is not much on television of interest for elderly people these days. This is why I wish to play music that travels back over the past hundred years, with 'COUNTRY AND WESTERN' that goes way back to the Old West, and 'MAISIE'S MUSICAL MEMORIES', incorperating the signature tune 'Forgotten Dreams', which is what the programme is all about, bringing back the lost youth of the dear people who gave up their youth to give us our freedom.
God Bless You All, Maisie Phillips
